Petra Museum Project – Completion 90%

General description of the project:
On March 1, 2014, PDTRA and JICA  (The Japan International Cooperation Agency) signed an agreement to establish new modern museum near to the visitor center, to showcasing the antiquities of the Nabataean city of Petra, the museum will provide an appropriate venue for exhibiting historical cultural property and preserving the archaeological site. The building is 1783 square meters and consists of one story.
Petra Museum was designed in accordance with the state-of-the-art engineering and architectural designs to showcasing the archaeological assets that embody the Nabataean civilization and the other civilizations settled in Petra. The museum will diversify the tourist product in the City of Petra and enhance the cultural and historical value of the city, prolong the tourists staying in the region and enhance its investment and economic development.
The Petra Museum project, whose cornerstone was laid by His Majesty King Abdullah II, will contribute in preserving the historic and cultural heritage of the City. It is expected to be completed in 2018. It will provide facilities and services for the visitors of the City and provide documented information through the archaeological exhibits on the history of the City and the most prominent civilizations settled in it.
The construction of the building started by the end of January 2016 and it will be open in March 2019.
The building consists of the following sections:
The museum building
2953.17 square meter for the showcasing section.
2172.40 square meter for the archaeological pieces.
303.86 square meter for the reception section.
2267.37 square meter for the Administration section.
48.22 square meter for the utilities (electricity, pumps …etc.)
38.35 square meter Other.
