Downtown Development Project / Phase One – Completion 90%

Project Description:

The downtown development project is located at the heart of the city of Wadi Mousa. It is old buildings traced back to the 1940s. It had not been renovated. It does not accommodate the increasing tourism movement, not to mention the daily traffic jam it creates. The idea of establishing and creating this project is to find a spacious space to stand on the daily life of citizens and to provide all tourism services requirements, to increase employment opportunities for citizens through the many shops on site, and to provide parking lots for employees, tourist shoppers and locals.
The idea of the downtown development project is consistent with the existence of the Village of Al-Jai, an ancient village for the residents of the area which was acquired and rehabilitated with the old architectural style to represent the old part and the old life of the residents of the area. Due to its proximity to the downtown development project, the two projects will be linked investment wise where the tourist can stand on the details of the old life, to revive the heritage, and display the heritages and the way of making antiques, embroideries, handicrafts and cooking methods and preparing traditional food in the modern project (downtown), which features a modern architectural style that provides a lot of shops and modern life needs to the tourists and citizens alike.

Project goals:
  • Create a recreational outlet for the city's visitors through several projects, redevelop and rehabilitate the city center with new modern facades, paved courtyards, large sidewalks, parking lots, shopping areas, plaza and water bodies, the center of the heritage through rehabilitating and operating the heritage village of Al-Jai.
  • This project is one of the vital projects of PDTRA and a revenue source as it contains: one floor parking lots accommodating at least 220 cars and approximately 24 shops, in addition to (42) rooms in the heritage village of Al-Jai, knowing that PDTRA  has acquired enough space for this project and it owns the whole land now.
  • The total area of the site is (12) Donums.
  • This project aims to develop a detailed integrated plan to develop the downtown of Wadi Mousa to improve the urban image of the city's heritage center and to deal with the traffic problems, lack of parking lots and provide open public places which will attract investments and events for tourists, thus increasing the number of city's visitors of the citizens and foreigners. It will also contribute to prolonging the duration of tourist stay and their interaction with the city by providing them with services and events, benefiting the national economy in general and local economy in particular.
Project Phases:
