Arterial Street Project: Completion 65%.

General description of the project
PDTRA studied several infrastructure projects as part of its believe to develop the internal road network which was causing traffic congestion especially during the tourist seasons, especially at the arrival of the cruise ships in large numbers and dozens of buses entering the city at the same time. To facilitate the movement of the visitor and the local people in the region by creating an alternate arterial road for the current road running from the center of Wadi Mousa city, which is 1550 meters long, as all internal roads fall within the scope of the downtown development project. Therefore, PDTRA created this 1000-meter-long, 14 meters wide road to be an alternate to the main street passing towards the visitor center, and the archaeological city of Petra.

Project goals:
  • Smooth traffic on the road leading to the Petra Visitors Center after the rehabilitation of the city center
  • Relieve the traffic pressure on the city center and find an alternative to the downtown street.
  • Shorten the distance to reach Petra Visitor Center.
  • The arterial road would create an appropriate traffic infrastructure.
Project components:
  • The length and width of the street were selected to suit the transport traffic within the region.
  • The street will be equipped with sidewalks and curbstones to protect it, taking into account the establishment and expansion of appropriate culverts in the areas on which this street was built.
  • Provide the street with the appropriate lighting.
  • Provide the street with necessary signs for visitors.
Project Phases:
  • Study the project's design and tender documents in preparation for implementation.
  • Invite the tender and award it to the contractor.
  • Commence the implementation where it started in 2016.
