Maintenance, conservation and restoration of archaeological sites projects

  • Rehabilitation and cleaning of routs and roads in front of visitors and tourists of the archaeological city of Petra, especially in Winter, and the destruction of some archaeological stone walls caused by rain and flood water and the stone walls built to prevent washout in order to preserve the archaeological sites by installing many metal scaffolds to be used by foreign missions on the archaeological facades in many sites inside the city of Petra to conduct a number of studies with regard to salts and humidity in addition to use them in the different maintenance and restoration works. The most important sites used in the restoration include: the Obelisk Tomb, the facade adjacent to the Turkmen Tomb, the area of Royal Tombs leading to the Kabtha area.
  • Installation of a number of guidance and explanatory signs in coordination with a tourist office in many sites within the city of Petra, which includes historical and archaeological information about the sites in addition to a map showing the whereabouts of the visitor, concentrated in the center of the city, Sadouh area, Tomb of Aaron, Al-Zantour, Qasr al-Bint, Khabtha area, High Place of Sacrifice, The Monastery, Christians Caves, and Al- Beidha.
  • Rebuilding and reinforcing some archaeological walls in several areas of Al-Beidha to protect archaeological sites from floods and washouts.
  • Installation of a number of monitoring kiosks and information booths within the site of Petra and the sites surrounding the park and Al-Beidha area and paint them with a color commensurate with the nature of the region.
  • Establish and maintain a number of culverts within the valleys stream in several areas of Petra and Al-Beidha, especially the road area leading to the excavation of the agricultural village in Al-Beidha.
  • Maintain the solar energy project in the area of Umm Sihon (Petra Gate) by cleaning the energy mirrors and remove the damaged ones in addition to removing the obstructing plants within its borders of dirt, dust and stones.
  • Participation of some of the maintenance and restoration workshop technicians in the work of the Siq stability project due to some natural influences under the supervision of the UNESCO Office in Amman and the Petra Park.
  • Participation of the maintenance and restoration workshop in the transfer of antiques from Petra Old Museum to the archaeological warehouses.
  • The technical workshop participated in some preparations of Petra Visitors Center exhibition, where many antiquities were transferred from archeological warehouses to the visitors center exhibition.
  • Restoration of the floor of Petra Siq to reinforce the tile floors and cement blocks where appropriate materials and mixtures were used.
  • Sand gabions were placed in the upper area of the Nabatean Khan to protect the area from the effects of washouts and rainwater.
  • The maintenance and restoration workshop participation in several courses in the field of maintenance and restoration where the Park trainees stood were briefed on the maintenance achievements and works in Petra since the fifties until the present time and introduced to the international schools and documents regarding the maintenance and restoration.
